Hamilton crashes after car failure

– Mercedes has confirmed that Lewis Hamilton's opening day crash at Jerez was caused by a car failure. Shortly before 1pm local time (GMT +1), Hamilton slid into the Turn 1 barriers at the Spanish venue, causing considerable damage to the front-end of the new W05, which had broken cover directly ahead of the test. Hamilton is unlikely to return to action in the afternoon, but he currently leads the way with a 1.27.820.
