Perez handed five-place grid penalty for gearbox change

Sergio Perez has been handed a five-place grid penalty for today's Brazilian Grand Prix. McLaren elected to change his gearbox for the 71-lap race. The Mexican driver, competing in his final race for the Woking-based team, had originally qualified in 14th place at the Interlagos circuit. He managed to out-qualify his team-mate Jenson Button, who will now be promoted to 14th place due to the penalty, despite crashing in the closing stages of Q2 at turn five. After inspecting his damaged car and discovering a problem with the gearbox, they decided to fit a new one. The 23-year-old will now start the race from 19th on the grid.
