Whitmarsh annoyed over abandoned test

McLaren's proposed Pirelli test in Austin has been cancelled much to the disappointment of team boss Martin Whitmarsh. McLaren had hoped to help Pirelli test their 2014 tyres during a test in a 2011 car ahead of the United States Grand Prix. However, as rivals complained that McLaren would get an unfair advantage, the FIA ruled that the run could not take place. "I think testing the 2011 car with 2014 tyres, and with all due respect to them, Oliver Turvey or Kevin Magnussen doing the driving, it was not going to be an awful lot of help for us," Whitmarsh told Autosport.
