Top teams unlikely to run young drivers in extended practice
Despite an extended two hour first practice being agreed by teams for the 2014 season, it is unlikely that front-running teams will use the additional half an hour to field young drivers.
A plan to boost the chances of driving F1 machinery for reserve and test drivers on F1 weekends came to light last week after a meeting by teams prior to the Singapore Grand Prix.
Teams gave the green light to extend FP1 from 90 to 120 minutes, the ability to switch from reserve to race driver mid-session and for an extra set of tyres to be provided, which must be used within the first half an hour of the session.
