Red Bull preferred 'young blood' approach

Red Bull technical chief Adrian Newey says it was in the best interests of the team to sign a young second driver for the 2014 Formula 1 campaign, rather than attempting to secure the services of an experienced name such as Lotus' Kimi Räikkönen. After a two-season spell with the junior Toro Rosso squad, Daniel Ricciardo has ultimately been given the opportunity to join Sebastian Vettel in 2014, with Newey and team boss Christian Horner electing to nurture and develop a growing skillset.
