Race: Vettel Extends His Lead With Spa Win

Sebastian Vettel took a step closer to a fourth World title when he beat Fernando Alonso to the race win in Belgium. The German took control of the 44-lap grand prix on the opening lap, overtaking pole-sitter Lewis Hamilton as he slip-streamed the Mercedes driver. From there he did not look back. Lap after lap Vettel built up a gap between himself and the chasing pack which, as the laps counted down, was led by Alonso. Showing much-improved race pace in the dry, the double World Champion worked his way up to second but could do nothing to haul in Vettel.
