Japanese GP to remain at Suzuka until 2018
The Japanese Grand Prix will remain a fixture of the Formula 1 calendar until at least 2018 after Suzuka extended its contract to host the event. Bernie Ecclestone met with Suzuka president Hiroshi Soda in London this week to agree the new five-year deal which begins in 2014. The deal ensures Honda, which owns the circuit, has a home race when it rejoins the sport in 2015 as an engine supplier to McLaren. Bernie Ecclestone is hopeful that Honda's return will have a positive impact on the race and its ticket sales which have fallen since the loss of the manufacturer and its rival Toyota.
