Williams hires Symonds as new technical chief

Williams has hired Pat Symonds as chief technical officer of the team after Mike Coughlan paid the price for poor form so far this season. Symonds is leaving his job at rival team Marussia to help Williams' quest for its first point of 2013. Williams says Coughlan 'stepped down' from his position as technical director and leaves with immediate effect. Symonds has worked in Formula 1 for 30 years, achieving championship success with Michael Schumacher at Benetton and Fernando Alonso at Renault. But he was out of F1 from 2009 until this year, serving a ban over a controversial incident while at Renault.
