Hamilton tops first Nürburgring practice
Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton set the pace during the opening practice session for the German Grand Prix on Friday morning. The Briton, who delivered a personal best time of 1:31.754 at the Nürburgring venue, led team-mate Nico Rosberg by 0.298 seconds, with Red Bull's Mark Webber seven tenths further back in third. Although dark clouds loomed throughout the session, rain stayed away and gave the drivers vital time on Pirelli’s new compounds. Unfortunately for Fernando Alonso, his car came to a halt after just a few corners and, despite it being transported to the pit lane for repairs, the same issue struck later on, ultimately leaving him without a time.
