Rosberg on top in first practice in China

Nico Rosberg led a Mercedes one-two in the first practice session for the Chinese Grand Prix as he set about attempting to follow up on his victory 12 months ago at the same circuit. Team-mate Lewis Hamilton was second fastest and 0.454s off Rosberg as Mercedes comes to this weekend with new front and rear wings, new brake ducts and a new cooling system. The early signs are good with the nearest competitor, Red Bull's Mark Webber, 0.941s off the pace of Rosberg. However, the teams only ran the harder medium compound tyre during FP1, with the soft compound set to make an appearance in the afternoon.
