Magnussen to act as McLaren reserve

Kevin Magnussen will act as McLaren's reserve driver for the Chinese and Bahrain Grands Prix, taking on Gary Paffett's regular role. The Dane, son of ex-Formula 1 driver Jan, is also expected to undertake the duties at selected races later in the season. Magnussen, who is currently contesting the Formula Renault 3.5 series with DAMS, was signed up as member of the McLaren Young Driver Programme in 2010 and tested a Formula 1 car for the first time with the outfit in Abu Dhabi last November. Should regular drivers Jenson Button or Sergio Pérez be deemed unfit to race due to illness or injury, 20-year-old Magnussen will in theory stand-in and make his debut.
