Lotus plays down FIA engine map ruling

Lotus Technical Director James Allison has played down the importance of the engine map clarification made by governing body the FIA at last week's Barcelona test, with Renault being prevented from modifying its settings ahead of the 2013 season. Lotus spent the final day of the test assessing an altered engine map, having been eager to further exploit the Coandă effect through improved exhaust blowing techniques. After requesting the FIA's viewpoint on the matter, Renault was informed that the settings must remain as they were at the beginning of the 2012 campaign, a clarification which had already been issued at last year's German Grand Prix.
